The Dollyrots - Daydream Explosion

Today I am trying something different. I have a massive music collection that I use to fight the voice in my head telling me I suck. So we are going to talk about only my favorite albums. This being the first one, I am going to talk about one that is so sickeningly happy that it will make the dark voices run for cover. That album is from one of my favorite bands, The Dollyrots. And the album is Daydream Explosion.
You might ask why did it take this long to get to the review and I would say: why do you get a say in what I write?
I am not going to go track by track, but I am going to call out the tracks I love and how they relate to my various mental issues. So let's start with "Animal." To me, this song as a trans person is about living your life without compromise. It's telling me to let my true self out of the prison I confine her in on a daily basis. Now, I am not saying that I am that brave, because we all know that isn't possible, but I love the idea.
Next up is "In Your Face." This is again my interpretation of the lyrics, but to me it's about not caring what others think and living the life you want. So this is my dream attitude as I continue to hide who I am and apologize for existing in the world. I listen to this one a lot and I dream of being this person.
Next we will talk about "Flippy In My Red Dress." No deep meaning for me here, it's just about the most fun song on the album. At least it is to me. I crank this up in my Jeep with tinted windows so no one can see me and just drive around.
Ok, last up, and this happens a lot. Let's talk about the song I don't like: "I Know How To Party." This is probably my agoraphobia peaking out, and the idea of a party is a nightmare to me.
The rest of the album is amazing and to be honest I usually just let it play on repeat when I play it, so that is my first music "review." I know it's not very technical, but you are reading a review about an album from years ago and you came to my blog to do it.
Go buy it. I give it 5 Lexapro's. (This is a terrible rating system, I will try harder next time.)
